‘I don’t have time to be a
nurturing girlfriend’
Glamorous. Sexy. Ambitious. PT meets Pooja Misrra, the sexy Puneite in love with her work, work and more work AMIT DURGAPAL Times News Network
APOPULAR VJ, a sizzling ramp model, a blooming actress, a socialite, a dancing diva — Pooja Misrra takes it all in her stride with grace and ease. The sultry dame makes a great impact on the small screen on her talk show Jab We Talk where she effortlessly doles out answers to relationship problems. How does Pooja react to the label of Love Guru conferred upon her? “It’s quite incidental, and I wouldn’t take it seriously. It feels good that people find a friend in me, and care to act upon my advice.”
Initially, portraying the character of a helping friend of the distraught was difficult for Pooja. She explains, “Off the camera, Pooja is an inhabitant of her own world, reserved, not as gushing as people find me on screen.” But, it was not after long that she came across as an endearing friend. Endowed with the gift of the gab, she can spontaneously articulate the subtleties of emotions which, she says, is the USP of her talk show. Pooja has made a mark for herself as a VJ. But, are there any key influences on her style? She says, “I notice people imitate my style of rendition, the way I dress, and the way I conduct myself. I have perfected my own style.” Anything on the romantic front? Unfortunately, her tight work schedule does not allow her time for romantic pursuits. “With the kind of work I have where I am constantly on a move, I cannot be a nurturing girlfriend.” Pooja is also a theatre enthusiast and is going to debut, come next month, with
Alyque
Padamsee and
Garry Richardson. Apart from being a hot model, who has walked the ramp for designers like Samant Chauhan and Nandita Thirani among others at major shows, she was at an event in Singapore sharing the stage with the health minister of Singapore, Khaw Boon Wan, who was mesmerised by her grace and poise and went gaga praising the beauty of the Indian women.
Bollywood is one sunny space at the top where Pooja hasn’t made a permanent nest for herself. Is time running out for her? She chooses to differ: “There are 40-year-old mothers making an acting debut. Such being the case, I have two decades of age difference to my advantage.” She rubbishes the statement that acting is in the genes. “The only thing in my genes is the winner’s attitude,” says she.
Pooja has signed some interesting projects that have come her way. Very particular about the projects she has taken up, she assures us that she will do Pune proud. “I love Pune. It’s very peaceful and green, and is fast becoming a cosmopolitan city. I see no difference between Mumbai and Pune,” says the girl who finds time to come down to Pune on the weekends for sure.
As time goes on, we will see more and more of Pooja. Let’s wait and see what surprises she has for us.
